Introducing the lightest 3-layer on the market

December 2020

Introducing the lightest 3-layer on the market with an impressive technical spec. What’s next for Running Performance - LTP’s New Development Styles for Mectex.

Over recent years uptake in physically punishing endurance races has surged as athletes look for greater challenges. The State of Ultra Running 2020 report shows participation has increased by 1676% in the last 23 years from 34,401 to 611,098 per year. There have never been more ultra runners or marathon runners. As a result, these long distance athletes are looking for next-level kit that can optimise and enhance athletic ability. This demand enables industry innovators to flex their performance prowess, crafting cutting-edge athletic apparel.

This season the LTP Group have created 2 new trailblazing jackets for Italian fabric supplier Mectex using the companies latest fabric innovations called NOXOUT and NOXGRAF. Discussing the launch of the innovative development, Alex Ingildsen, CCO at LTP Group states

“Is there anything more essential than innovation? Our team work hard to create world-class products utilising the most innovative materials and latest assembling techniques. It’s this pursuit that informs the work at our innovation centres in Vietnam and Lithuania. Crafting these styles for Mectex with their award-winning fabrics enables us to push the boundaries and showcase what is possible for the future of running performance”

Here, Ingildsen, fabric sourcing & innovation manager at LTP Laura Didžiokienė and designer/trend forecaster Chantell Fenton discuss the new design solutions crafted from Mectex latest textiles.

Introducing the lightest 3-layer on the market

It all starts with an incredible material, NOXOUT. Weighing a mere 63 g/sm, this is one of the lightest 3-layer fabrics on the market whilst also boasting breathability, weather protection and stretch. The fabric features the MECPOR 4.0 membrane which is an evolution of the first PU membrane presented by Mectex in 1979. The membrane is a PU hydrophilic, featuring an impressive technical specification with waterproof (20k), breathable (RET

Marrying the latest fabric tech with cutting edge construction, the whole garment is taped using Bemis' recycled tape. The ergonomic design features strategically placed perforation zones for enhanced ventilation. The style also features natural mocha tea eco-transfers by Laurema. The cutting-edge heat transfer process is free-from hazardous substances such as phthalates, heavy metals, lead or formaldehyde. All trims are recycled including YKK’s recycled zippers with a QuickFree® fasten which allows the wearer to release the zipper by simply pulling the garment.

Using the latest eco-friendly materials, techniques and construction means the jacket is Bluesign® approved.

The Game Changer: A Graphene Membrane

The second exciting fabric development from Mectex has the same properties as NOXFLOW, but with the addition of a Graphene membrane dubbed MECGRAPH. Often described as a “wonder material”, Graphene offers a host of benefits ideal for performance-wear and at only one atom thick, the graphene doesn’t add any additional weight.

Mectex’s featherweight material NOXGRAF, is strong, waterproof, weatherproof, repels bacteria, features dynamic stretch and is an excellent electrical and thermal conductor.

The bacteriostatic quality of the material means bacteria from sweat cannot penetrate or grow on the surface of the fabric. This results in a no-odour effect which is ideal for high-intensity or long workouts.

The smart textile conducts heat which enables the material to regulate the wearer’s body temperature by moving heat around the garment. Graphene can also wick moisture away from the skin during exercise.

Furthermore, the wonder material can absorbs Far infrared (FIR) which can improve blood oxygenation, enhance performance and relieve muscle fatigue.

As if that wasn’t enough, graphene is also 100% sustainable, as the material exists in nature and no chemical components are added to the treatment.

The cutting-edge fabric is crafted into a high-performance jacket. Once again, stitch-free which is impenetrable to water and lighter than traditional seams without compromising on seam strength. This construction also means seams are rub resistant for a no-chafe finish and enhanced close-to-skin comfort.
